Mareike Vogt is Senior Associate - Patient Safety & Consumer Service based at our Herrenberg, Germany location! Find out about her journey at Perrigo to-date and what has been a stand-out moment for her!
Can you tell me a little bit about the Safety function at Perrigo? At the beginning of last year, I successfully completed my master’s degree in microbiology and then started an internship at Perrigo in the Safety Team DACH. During the internship, I wanted to gain insights into the pharmaceutical industry and the opportunities as a biologist. I was warmly welcomed by the whole DACH team, learned a lot and my expectations were exceeded, because since October 2020 I have been a permanent member of the Safety Team DACH. In short, we continuously monitor the safety of our products, which we market in the DACH cluster and therefore maintain close contact with consumers and distributors of our self-care products. I am very grateful for this awesome start to my career and looking back, I wouldn't do it any other way.
What is a typical workday like as part of the Safety team? It is almost impossible to describe a typical working day. The daily work in the field of patient safety is very diverse. We are constantly in contact with consumers, healthcare professionals, our global patient safety team as well as cooperation partners, which gives us a wide variety of tasks and processes. Our major aim is the satisfaction and health of all those who use our self-care products.
How would you describe the Safety Team culture in the DACH Cluster? As I said before, I was warmly welcomed by the whole team at Perrigo. Due to the Corona pandemic, I mainly work from home but we still have an incredibly friendly, helpful and pleasant interaction in the team. Even when faced with many challenges, open communication always comes first. For me, this aspect is extremely valuable.
What has been your biggest work-related highlight within the Safety function? My whole first year at Perrigo was super exciting. Perrigo has given me great opportunities to develop personally and professionally. Of course, after graduating as a microbiologist, I had to learn an enormous amount to become a specialist in patient safety. And even today, there are new exciting topics and tasks to discover every day. In March 2021, I was honoured with a ‘Perrigo Star Award’ because I took on many tasks and responsibilities in the Safety Team within a short period of time. This was definitely my highlight and I thank my team for their trust in me and my abilities.
What can a prospective employee expect when joining the Safety function? From my perspective as a young professional, I can report that new employees in the DACH team can expect a varied and dynamic field of work, great development opportunities and a supportive and open-minded team.
What does someone need, to be successful within the Safety function? I think in short, good work in the safety field means being extremely attentive to detail and aiming for constant optimization.
What is your favourite part about being part of Safety function? I love the wide variety of tasks. It's super exciting to operate at both consumer and agency level. And quite simply, I’m a perfectionist in terms of the standards I set for my work, so I’m absolutely right in monitoring patient safety.
