Martijn Rijsdijk is an S&OP Manager at our Perrigo Netherlands location! Martijn began his Perrigo career in 2017 and in 2019 he transitioned into his current Demand Planning position, where he is responsible for the entire S&OP process. Below he shares some insights into his progression at Perrigo!
How long have you worked here? Can you tell us more about your role and background? I’m currently working at Perrigo Netherlands for three and a half years. I began in October 2017 as an Inventory and Supply Chain Analyst and after two years I made the step towards the Demand Planning role. At this moment I’m responsible for the whole S&OP process, including demand planning and tracking, identifying risks & opportunities, and the reconciliation between demand and supply. Before I joined Perrigo, I worked at an FMCG wholesaler located in the Netherlands. That was my first fulltime employer after I graduated at the Erasmus University where I studied the Bachelor Business Administration and Master Supply Chain Management.
What made you decide to join Perrigo? I was with my former company for 2 years when I was approached about a challenging role in my hometown of Rotterdam. After the interviews at Perrigo NL, I immediately became enthusiastic about the culture of the organisation, the right path that had been taken, and the optimisations that could still be implemented. The fact that the local organisation existed of just 70 people was really appealing and the open position was a cross functional role, at the core of the business with substantial stakeholder interaction! I quickly realised that this was an opportunity to have more impact than my previous positions had awarded and that it would be the right step towards my personal development!
How has your career progressed since you joined Perrigo? During the first two years, we made huge steps related to the periodic review of our assortment and the inventory strategy based on several order parameters. Together with the local Supply team we have improved the whole Supply department towards a central business partner for the whole organisation. After 2 years, I made my next step towards the Demand Planning Role. For me, the most interesting part in this role is the involvement with all the brands and the cross functionality. To operate in the middle of the organisation with almost all functional areas; category managers, account managers, brand managers, financial controllers and the local and central supply team, provides me a lot of knowledge about a wide range of disciplines and has helped me to understand more about decision variables and backgrounds. In the meantime I have expanded a part of my current S&OP responsibilities for the green division (OCE BIO) and our new direct to consumer channel.
What keeps you at Perrigo? The main thing that keeps me at Perrigo is the pleasant culture of the organisation. The company consists of professionals who want to achieve goals in a collaborative way, that are ready to help others, and create a pleasant working atmosphere in a social way. This, in combination with a very supportive management team - who always looks at personal development and challenge, results in a great place to work!
What is your favourite part of your role? My favourite part of my role is the diversity - we get to interact with various brands and a wide range of both local and international stakeholders. I am constantly building upon my business knowledge, I have a lot of impact, and I am involved in multiple projects!
What is your career highlight so far? The highlight of my Perrigo career so far is the development of the S&OP process and the role that the supply department has taken in the organisation. We have grown with the entire team from a reactive attitude to a proactive one, that builds bridges between different disciplines and acts as a fully-fledged business partner for all other functional areas.
What would you say to people thinking about applying to Perrigo? I can give one core piece of advice: If you want to work in a company where you have the possibility to learn, develop yourself, and to contribute to success in an organisation with social professionals, go for it!
How would you describe the company culture? As said, the culture within Perrigo is one of the main reasons that keeps me at Perrigo. Results-oriented working in a collaborative way with social people with humor is the definition of the Perrigo team for me.
What do you like about life at Perrigo? I like to have the ability to have an Impact on success and to get in touch with several functional areas.
And finally, an important life question - are you a Tea or Coffee person? Coffee it is !
