DUBLIN, Ireland and Allegan, Michigan – March 27, 2019 --The Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation is proud to announce a donation of $100,000 to Allegan General Hospital for renovations in surgical services.
A community celebration in honor of the donation took place at Allegan General Hospital, where the Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation presented a $100,000 check for new sterilizing machines that significantly increase the number of surgical instruments that can be sterilized at a given time. The Foundation’s $100,000 check for the sterilizing machines contributes to the $400,000 total investment Allegan General Hospital is making to renovate the sterile processing area of its Surgery Department.
“Once again, The Perrigo Foundation is demonstrating a strong commitment to providing state-of-the-art healthcare for this community,” says Gerald J. Barbini, President and CEO, Allegan General Hospital. “The sterilizer machines are the most recent in a long list of very generous Perrigo donations that significantly enhance our ability to provide high quality services to area residents. Perrigo, its employees and the Foundation continue to be outstanding partners to Allegan General Hospital.”
“We are so appreciative of this gift,” says Kathy Chapman, Chief Clinical Officer, Allegan General Hospital. “The new equipment sterilizers are extremely efficient, allowing staff to improve their daily work flow. Each new sterilizer has a much larger capacity so fewer cycles are needed, saving time and improving staff productivity. The new units are also environmentally friendly, reducing water consumptions by more than 200 gallons per cycle.”
Last year, Allegan General’s Surgery Department performed 3,405 surgical cases. Allegan General provides surgical care for both inpatients and outpatients on an elective, urgent and emergency basis. Surgical procedures offered at the hospital include general surgery, orthopedics, otorhinolaryngology (ENT), pain management, endoscopy, urology, gynecology and podiatry. Perrigo, a global consumer self-care company known in the U.S. for over-the-counter store brand staples such as cough and cold medication, analgesics, pain relievers and infant formula, is dedicated to giving back to the health and wellness of its communities through the Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation.
Murray Kessler, Perrigo Chief Executive Officer and President stated, “Perrigo believes in promoting self-care everywhere we live and work. Residents who come to Allegan General Hospital needing treatment may not have access to surgical units in larger cities. This gift to the surgical unit represents the Perrigo Foundation’s commitment to the community and its health and well-being.”
Over the past decade, Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation has contributed over $1 million dollars to Allegan General Hospital to encourage health and wellness in Allegan County, which is home to Perrigo’s North American Head of Operations.
